D300
We have decided at long last to replace the old 'Alecto' mono and stereo power amplifiers with a new generation of technology. The D300 mono amplifier is the first in a new product range that incorporates highly efficient 'class D' output stages combined with specially manufactured toroidal transformers for a more traditional power supply. 'Never Connected' technology is used to provide power to the front end amplifier preceding the class D section.

Please note - D does not stand for "digital"
The letter D used to designate this type of amplifier is simply the next letter after C, and does not stand for digital. Class D and Class E amplifiers are sometimes mistakenly described as "digital" because the output waveform superficially resembles a pulse-train of digital symbols, but a Class D amplifier merely converts an input waveform into a continuously pulse-width modulated (square wave) analog signal. (A digital waveform would be pulse-code modulated.)

At only 22cm wide and 6cm high, these amplifiers are relatively small and ideally suited to multiple amplifier set-ups. Balanced and single ended (phono) operation are catered for with a switch on the rear of the unit.

We are pleased to incorporate 'Never Connected' technology into these amplifiers to give the very best sound quality.
One very special component used in these amplifiers is the main toroidal transformer which provides power to both the UcD module and the 'Never Connected' power supply for the front end buffer amplifier. The core is overwound with a wire diameter that is larger than actually required giving a unit with 'equilibrium of resistance' between core loss and copper loss. In short this means that the transformer has minimal eddy currents, which makes it far more efficient and extremely cool in operation. Sound quality also benefits significantly from this feature. This transformer is specifically manufactured for us by Paul Houlden of TEC transformers.
